In 1748, Shawnee town was formed. It was a giant and busy town. This town was so famous at one time that Lewis and Clark stayed here. It was in reality a home to the first chartered bank in Illinois. In actual fact, only Shawnee town and D.C. were towns commissioned by the United States government. It was situated right on the Ohio River, which had a propensity to flood a whole heap.
